August Calendar Class

Good morning, everyone! Today, I wanted to show you the next layout that we will be doing for the August Calendar Class. I chose this paper from the Photo Play Collection called "Campfire". I love the titles of the papers that we will be working with: Flannel Shirt, Sleeping Bag, and Around the Campfire.

In this class, we will be creating our own Border Clusters. This is a technique that is used in Digital Scrapbooking which we are going to recreate. In Digital Scrapbooking the embellishments are one-dimensional. In this class, we will create and use 3D embellishments. We are also using a Distress Oxide called Peeled Paint.

You can find many examples of Border Clusters on Pinterest. Have a close look at the Borders that we will be doing in this class, using some flowers, enamel gems, wooden buttons and twine, and some signs created using my Silhouette.

The class is scheduled for Saturday, August 26. Watch the blog for the time.

Stencil birthday wishes!

Happy Friday! Have you tried the Clarity brushes yet? A set of 4 super soft brushes, so easy to use, to get ink on with no lines or smudges, a great look with no effort. For my card today, I used some mini stencils from Tim Holtz, set number 25, with two Tim Holtz distress inks, iced spruce and worn lipstick. For the main big panel, you will find that your stencil is not big enough to cover it at one time, but I just move it around till a get full coverage, do not worry about over lapping,it will look great. After I ink up the brush , I just put the first few strokes on a scrap piece, and after that, I go back and forth where I want the colour, no lines, no smudges, you will love it!
The sentiment is from the Tulip set from Altenew, I stamped it a couple of times with Versafine black and the mini misti. Some Nuvo drops, because I could not resist, lol.
Hope you like it, till next time, Anja

Kaisercraft "Keepsake" Collection

Good morning, everyone! This week, I decided to take a break from designing kits and did some of my own scrapbooking using this beautiful new collection from Kaisercraft called "Keepsake". Here is a look at the beautiful paper line:

I had this photo of my daughter that I wanted to scrapbook. She was dressed to go to the Queen's Plate in Toronto and I loved her new hat. Often, when I scrapbook, I try to match papers to the colours in the photo. But in this case, I wanted the striking colour of her hat to stand out. So I went for a very monochromatic look in the layout design.

I used the first two papers in the line shown above and fussy cut the frames in paper one. Then, I put this down on paper two and traced around the outer frames without actually gluing them onto the background paper. That enabled me to take some Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Oxide ink and go around the outside of the frames to highlight the area.

I used gesso on the chipboard pieces and then coloured them with a brown Chalk ink. I cut out some postcards that I had leftover from another layout that I had done and edged them in the brown ink, as well. I cut out some of the elements from the Sticker sheet that goes with the collection and added some Prima flowers from my stash. To darken down some of the flowers, I added some Vintage Photo Oxide ink to the centers.

And here you have the layout:

So remember, there are a few occasions when you might want to go for a monochromatic look in your papers and embellishments to allow the actual photo to stand out.

Have a great week.

Texte Grunge

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you a card I made with a new embossing folder that SGD just got in. The embossing folder is called Texte Grunge and it from Carabelle Studio. I wanted to make a masculine card, so I thought this would be a great folder to use. Once I embossed the black card stock I took a sponge and went over it with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink. I then cut out the boarder with an old Tim Holtz die strip called Washer Boarder. The sentiment is from Tim Holtz stamp set called Odds and Ends.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.
