August Calendar Class

Good morning, everyone. I wanted to share with you the layout that I designed for the Calendar Class on Sunday, August 17.

I used the Simple Stories papers from the "Good Day Sunshine" line. There are also a few points that I wanted to tell you about with this layout. First, let your paper determine the embellishments that you use. As you can see on the paper above "Hello", there are hearts, stars, and sequins. So that is how I determined to use some punched out hearts, some wooden stars and a heart, and some sequins. Also, mix up your old Thickers and colour them to match your layout. I used the Wink of Stella brushes in different areas on this layout: colouring the Thickers, colouring the word "Sunshine" on the paper above, and colouring the wooden embellishments. I love the Wink of Stella brushes and am getting quite a nice collection of colours. Below, you will see some of the other elements that I used on this layout.

Derwent and Art Journaling

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you one of my favourite techniques that I use to make my  background in my art journal. I got this technique from Terri Kahri. She has a wonderful video you can watch. I like to use Dylusions Small Creative Journal when I am working on different techniques. This is sort of like my note book of techniques.
I love using the Derwent Intense Colored Pencils to make this back ground.

Before you start you must prep your page with gesso. If you don't, your page will pill ( not sure if that is the word). You scribble over your page with your Derwent Intense Pencils. These are the colours I started with, Tangerine, Sienna Gold, Violet and Freesia. Using a baby wipe you rub your marks until they are mixed together. You let this dry and then add Sherbet and Dark Aquamarine.

I then take Dina Wakeley Turquoise paint and rub with a baby wipe to certain areas of my pages. Not too much but enough to blend the colours.

I than used Dina Wakeley Textures stamps with different colours of her paint and stamp all over to finish off the background.

You can also use this technique to make  backgrounds for your card making.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Fun with distress inks from Tim Holtz!

Happy Friday!! The distress inks from Tim Holtz have been around for a while and for lots of us it is one of our favourites! It's very versatile and they are soooooo easy to make a nice background so that any of your dies just pop! So for TOONIE TUESDAY, July 29 at 2 PM, we are gonna do just that.
For this background I used watercolour paper and a stencil to not mud up the colours....and my finger tips...
come on out, if  you can, and join us in the fun! Till next time, Anja

New Vintage Layout

Hi, everyone. Karen here posting my first blog ever. I feel as if I am entering the 21st century, finally. I wanted to share with you a layout that I have created for SGD with a Vintage Theme (one of my passions). I purposely left off a specific title so that anyone taking the class can design a specific title during the class. We all have such different photos that this will give you more flexibility in choosing your photos.
Here is a photo of the product that I used. Note that I didn't end up using the Butterfly Stamp and the Lindy's Embossing Powder pictured because it wasn't the correct shade once I had embossed the sentiment.
The class is on Thursday, August 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be limited kits available also. Have a good day!
