Scrappin' Great Deals carries several masks from both Prima and Tim Holtz. A mask is basically a stencil in reverse. Place the mask on paper, and apply your medium around it leaving what is behind the mask untouched, letting the original paper show through and it will be enhanced by the ink or mist you put around it. They are re-usable and clean up with just some damp paper towel. Masks are not even just for paper, use them on shipping tags, fabric, even flowers or other embellishments.
Tim Holtz masks such as this one:
have an adhesive backing making it very easy to use with several different mediums, such as ink or mist or even paint. Once the mask is in place, you can use distress ink with the foam applicator tool to apply the ink around the mask. You can also use spray mist or paint. Here is an example of a pairing of a Tim Holtz mask and distress inks:
Prima masks like this one:
are best used with a mist such as Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels. Simply place the mask over the paper or embellishment and spray away!! Prima masks are not adhesive, so while it is possible to use ink and a foam applicator tool, you must hold the mask in place while you are spreading the ink. It is very easy to allow the mask to slip & slide thereby potentially altering the appearance of the mask. Here is an example of a pairing of a Prima mask with glimmer mist:
and an example of a Prima mask with distress inks:
Masks are not just flourishes or flowers. They can be alphabets as well allowing you to create titles like this one:
or background text such as I did here:
Masks will add another layer to your projects, which I love. So take your layouts a step further and play with some masks! Experiment, go crazy! You won't be disappointed in the results!!

You are all FABULOUS!!
And if you came to our National Scrapbooking Day Event, you have a layout to prove it!!
Here is the layout that everyone created:
We created the flourish in the corner using a Prima mask and Electric Blue Glimmer Mist
And of course no layout is complete without a tag with a Tim Holtz sentiment on it!! It was stamped on a plain shipping tag, using a stamp found on his Urban Chic set with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, which was also used along the edges of the tag with some Tumbled Glass added to the middle of the tag.
The title fabulous was cut out using the Graphically Speaking Cricut cartridge, from a new shade of Bazzill cardstock - Fired Brick. Love it!!
We also used an EK Success Border Punch called Circles, a Tim Holtz Sizzix die called Tattered Florals, May Arts sparkly ribbon, Bazzill brads and Prima bling!! The designer paper was from October Afternoon and Echo Park.
We had a great day celebrating this wonderful industry of ours, we hope you did too!! For those of you who could not make it in to the store, (or would like to make another layout!) we do have a few extra kits on hand that you can purchase!!!

Sheila and I had an amazing day on Saturday creating with kit; we might have a bit of a competition going on, all in good fun though!! (It was a day of kit making, Andrea was working on her cards, Kim was working on her kids kit, busy busy busy!)
We did not include an alpha with this kit. We wanted to show that you can use the paper in your kits for your titles by using the fantastic Cricut machine and Cuttlebug/Big Shot. There are SO many font cartridges and dies you can use for these machines! They are not just for cards folks!!
Here are our creations for this month:
Here are two of my layouts, the third you can pop over to my blog to see, along with some close ups and details.
Remember that our kits are Limited Editions, and when they are gone, they are gone!! We do offer a monthly subscription to ensure that you never miss out!! And this month we have a little something special for our subscribers. As a thank you, and as a Mother's Day bonus, we are including a little extra "bling" in the kit, for our subscribers only!!! This fabulous Prima lace is yours:
Beautiful isn't it??!!
Thanks for looking and we hope you get inspired to create with this kit!!
