Washi Tape - A Trendy New Product!!!

So a HOT HOT trend right now is using WASHI TAPE on your layouts, cards, off the page projects, etc, etc.  Of course, we had to get some in for all you lovely ladies (and gents!) to try!

Here is a clip from WRMK, demonstrating their new Washi Tape:

We have LOTS of these new WRMK tapes, in fabulous colours, like AQUA:

and PINK:

There are also several other companies that make washi/trendy tape, like this ARGYLE PINK from Queen & Co.:

Last week, Kim demonstrated using tape to create your own die cut embellishment.  You can see her post here, if you missed it.

A while back, I used some Tim Holtz Tissue Tape (not in stock right now!) on this layout, all around the outside edge of the cardstock, it is great for framing pictures too!

This is a fantastic, versatile product!  Get some and try it for yourself!!  LOVE it!!!

Nothing beats a nice cuppa....

Sorry for the late post ladies but let me tell you this weekend has been a wee bit on the crazy side! I started out nice and relaxing with me having the house to myself while the rest of the family went to see the Avengers (fyi apparently it is an amazing movie!). It started out calmly with me in my craft room but quickly escalated into me spending the night rushing up and down the stairs from one puppy disaster to another. After having to get out the carpet cleaner, sweep up a MASSIVE amount of broken glass, wrestle cook books out of a puppy's death grip and just give up as other items were shredded I was so done by the time they got home. DONE. I even texted my daughter to ask them to bring me some decaf tea as I needed something to help me relax after  all of the puppy's good times. Today wasn't too much different lol! Good thing that dog is so cute let me tell you!

So as I sat at my craft table I remembered my decaf tea and this tea card I meant to post for today- ooops! Just under the wire! We made this card at our Product Talk session this past Thursday. If you haven't been to a 'Therapy Thursday' with the Amazing A-Team yet you have to check it out some time and join in on the madness!

This cute tea-cup was created using a die from Cottage Cutz called Small Teacups. It isn't on the website yet but you can find it in the store along with lots of other new ones. The sentiment is from the AMAZING tea stamp and die set from My Favorite Things called "Always time for Tea". The set has oodles of great sentiments for tea lovers like me!

Well I hope you all have an amazing weekend!
Cheers, Andrea

Poppy window card

Welcome to another Friday post! I didn't realize I hadn't posted this card yet ,we did this one a couple weeks ago for Therapy Thursday. It is a window card, the window is cut out with Nestabilities, on the inside I stamped the Memory box Poppy Row stamp and matted it with red.

On the outside we used the Memory Box Prim Poppy Floral die and the sentiment is from Hero Arts, say it all. A quick, simple and elegant card, have a great weekend, Anja

Trendy Tape

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday for Wonderful Wednesday we made a butterfly card with Trendy Tape. This is one of the hottest products out there. It is great for any paper crafting projects and it is on sale now and until Friday May 25/12.
I got this tutorial from Krya. I used acetate for the base of my butterfly. I used strips of Trendy Tape to cover my acetate, once I did this I then cut out with a sizzix die cut.

The paper and the "Just Because is from Kaisercraft.

Thanks for looking and have fun playing with the Trendy Tape.

Tutorial: Water colouring Magnolias with Distress Inks

Hello Stampers!

It was a beautiful Victoria Day long weekend here in London.  Unfortunately I didn't see much of it, as I was inside with a sick child.  But I took advantage of the time to write a little tutorial!

I will be teaching a class at SGD on May 31 where you can learn this technique in person!  In the meantime, here is a pictorial view.

First - here are my tips for starting out!

1.  I use the distress ink refills - but I have also enjoyed doing this technique with the distress markers!  They will do the same thing for you - with the advantage of being more portable, and less messy.

2.  I use the Tim Holtz palette - and I have a drop of refill in each spot - and line it up with my colour chart.  Having this colour chart in front of you is very important!

3.  I use a variety of brushes.  Mostly, the Tim Holtz detailer tip water brush.  I also use a number 0 paint brush and a number 00.  The Tim Holtz broad brush is also handy for backgrounds.

4.  I use watercolour paper.  There are MANY on the market.  I buy mine at an artists supply store and it is 140lb cold press.

5.  I stamp my image using Versafine ink, in Sepia.  I have also used Ranger Archival ink which works well too.  I like the sharp detail of the Versafine.

6.  I also keep beside me a pot of water, some paper towel, and my heat tool.  This Ranger heat tool is AWESOME.  I keep it plugged in beside me all the time.

OK - here we go!

Here is Tilda with Lovely Lace Shoes, stamped in Versafine Sepia - on watercolour paper.

First I colour all the skin.  With a damp brush, pick up some tea dye ink (or apply directly from the distress marker) around the face/ skin area.

Dab all the ink off your brush onto paper towel, and using a damp brush - blend out the ink into the skin area.

Here you can see the first coat of tea dye - almost completely blended out.  The first time you try this, you  may find it tricky - and may not like the result.  The nice thing is that you can add more water - and dab up the colour with a paper towel.  Just leave to try and then try again!

The key is knowing your brush - getting the feel for "how wet is just right" and how much ink you have on your brush.  Try it out on a scrap piece of paper before applying to your image to get the amount of ink just right.  Be sure your brush has no colour on it before you use it to blend out.  Be sure it isn't too wet.  If you go outside the line, use a damp brush to clean up the area - and push the ink back into the image.

Now I leave that base coat to dry a little and move onto the hair.  I apply some antique linen as a base coat for the hair.  Later I'll add some brushed corduroy and some scattered straw.  Also a little mustard seed for some brightness on the crown of her head.  You can use any of the browns that you like - or the light yellows - give them a try!

Now I go back and apply a second coat of tea dye to the face and blend it out.  I also apply little dots of tattered rose to the cheeks.

Then I go back to the hair, add some browns, and blend then out with some more antique linen.

Now, I apply some "dried marigold" to the shirt.

Here it is blended out.

Then, I finish up the blouse with "spiced marmalade".

I use some "spiced marmalade" to give shadows on the blouse.

For the jeans, I've used "faded jeans".

And also a little bit of "crushed olive" on the bum, to make them look "lived in" and worn.  I used "chipped sapphire" for the shadow areas.

I've also gone back and touched up the hair with some "vintage photo" around the hairline, and a little "mustard seed" on the crown.

I've used "brushed corduroy" for the soles of the shoes, and "dried marigold" for the frilly sock.

I've finished up the shoes with "antique linen".  I've used "weathered wood" for the outline and "brushed corduroy" for the shadow.  I've also overlaid some "brushed corduroy" on the shadows of the pants & the blouse.  I dabbed some "dried marigold" on the hair bows.

And here she is!

I hope you enjoyed my little pictorial.  Here are a few more little tips & tricks for you.

1.  use two colours per area, a light and a dark.  i.e. "dried marigold" and "spiced marmalade" or "faded jeans" with "chipped sapphire".

2.  use a brown shade to apply a deep shadow - here I've used "brushed corduroy" over the orange blouse and the blue jeans.

3.  give the base coat time to dry before applying the shadow for more depth.

SGD Photo Inspiration Challenge

Andrea here with something different for our little store blog. Welcome to our first challenge! I love playing along with challenges as I love seeing everyone's different take on the inspiration. The boss is flying to St. Lucia as I write this so why not add a prize in the mix to help kick things off! The prize will be a stamp set!

I took this photo today using that fun app Instagram. It allows you you add a vintage look to your photos with just one click. I bought these lush silk flowers while shopping with my friend Anja to decorate my craft room. I was looking at them this morning and thinking how these colours would look great on a card or page. So that is our challenge! Use this photo in anyway you want for inspiration. You might use the colours, add flowers to your card, etc. Where ever your creativity takes you! Please only enter newly created projects. I will update this post later with a linky tool so that you can share a picture right here on this post if your project.

So while I figure out how to do the linky thing it gives you time to get started! **Edited to add that I think I've got it! See the blue dude below to link up a picture on your blog or an online photo site**

Happy crafting! Andrea

One for the guys!

Happy Friday! Are you ready for a long weekend? It sounds like the weather is gonna be beautiful here in South Western Ontario. I have a happy farmer....the crops are in! It isn't his birthday but it could be...I made him a card, lol! This 4 x 4 card is done with a background embossed with a M bossabilities folder, wow, 2 for 1, they are awesome and emboss so nicely. There are a lot of different ones, check them out, this one can be found HERE. The sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations, no, it didn't smear when I stamped it, that's the look, so perfect for guys, you find it here. And MFT came out with a cool die to cut out the tools, some twine and silver Viva pearls to finish it off. I noticed that my embossed panel is turned, oh well, I tried, lol!
Have a great weekend, Anja

It is a Scrappin' Sheila Day!

Happy Sunny Tuesday!!!  Today I am sharing a few of Sheila's fabulous layouts created with May's Scrapbooking Kit.  Lovin' the colours this month!  So bright and perfect for spring! There may be one or two left in the store if you are interested!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

The ruffled tissue paper is from American Crafts, perfect background for this happy birthday layout!  Sheila experimented with some fluid acrylic paint and a Donna Downy foam stamp to create the flowers on the background, finished up with some fairy dust sprinkles.  (Thanks Karan for getting Sheila out of her comfort zone!!)

BECOMING YOU

Sheila coloured the white foam Thickers with Tattered Angels Pinata Glimmer Glaze!  We love Glimmer Glaze!!! You can paint anything with it, it shimmers, it dries fast - what's not to love!  The border along the bottom is included in the kit and is punched from an EK Success punch - Flower Burst.

FUN TIMES

This last layout utilized a new punch we have in the store from WRMK - Lucky Eight Floral Burst.  We really like them!!!  Any 12 x 12 piece of paper can become a diecut!  There are four styles to choose from - good luck picking just one!!!

Hope you have a fantastic day!

Father's Day card

Hello Stampers and Happy Monday!

Here is my first Father's Day card creation of the year.  I don't know about you, but I find masculine cards to be super challenging.  I can never find stamps - never mind stamps to colour.  And then how to embellish?  What colours to use?  Always a struggle.  This stamp is  "Fisherman" by Ai (Art Impressions).  My sentiment is from the "My Guy" set from Paper Smooches (hands down - my favourite line for sentiments).

If you haven't yet discovered the "Golden Oldies" series by Ai (Art Impressions) - you really have to check these out!  First of all, they're pretty funny.  And - they are so practical!  I find them great images for lots of occasions.  AND they're already cling mounted - and ready to colour.  LOVE!

I made a card with the ladies on beach chairs a while ago - and had SO many comments on it and asking to know where I found the stamp!

This one will be at my upcoming card class in June - I have another "Golden Oldie" to be featured there as well (just have to finish colouring it up!).

I just finished my Standard & Intermediate Copic Certification courses in Toronto two weeks ago!  I LOVED it - and was so excited to complete these courses - yay!  I can't wait to start teaching some of the new techniques I learned.  I'm still practicing, so bear with me!  There was LOTS of new stuff to learn - it was just heaven for me - and I had the joy of attending with my BFF Andrea (not to mention our crazy hotel & travel stories - be sure and ask Andrea about the magician's animals!).  What a fabulous time.

You may note my skin tones are different here than my usual.  I'm also trying out some new shadow techniques and even a cast shadow!  SO much fun!

May SGD Card Kits...hope you love them as much as I do!

Andrea here sharing with you the cards that you can make with this month's SGD card kit! I am sooo happy with how these turned out! I based this month's card design on some fun packaging I found on products around my house. I will have to look for inspiration that way more often me thinks!

This month card kit uses brand new paper lines from Kaiser Craft and Prima. I went from bold colours to pastels to give lots of variety. The stamps that are included are sweet sentiment stamps from Kaiser Craft. You get one set per kit but of course you can always buy a couple more too at the ridiculously low price of $3.28 each!

I hope you enjoy this month's kit if you are a subscriber and if you aren't- come and join us!!! Don't forget we try to have one or two for sale in the store as well while supplies last!

Cheers! Andrea
