Little Birdie

Hello Stampers!

It may feel like fall out there, but sometimes I just want to make pastel and Spring cards.  I LOVE this stamp & die set from My Favorite Things.  There are so many brands of dies out there now - dies are HOT!  But I keep going back to my beloved MFT.

This paper is from Kaisercraft.  An old 6 1/2" pad I found in my drawers that felt just right for this card!  It's called "Lil' Primrose".  I love a good paper pad, can never have too many!

Memory Box Christmas Bear Card

I'm feeling a little Christmasy today!

 to make today's card.

This is a fun way to use all the little ribbon scraps that we all tend to hoard (Busted... I saw your stash!). I used Score-Tape to attach my ribbon. I used a Scotch 3M ATG Glue Glider to attach my ribbon.

Have a great day!

Update from Sheila regarding the fire

**Please scroll down for a chance to win our blog candy by guessing how many buttons!**

Sheila wanted me to let you know that the support and kindness of many has been felt over and over again during this emotional rollercoaster period for Mike, Sheila and family. The donations of clothes, toiletries, gift cards and donations have helped immensely as they start to put their life back together. Sheila has even started to come back to work slowly and being around all her valued customers has helped the healing process greatly. Some of you have asked that I repost the Trust account information as you are just hearing about this for the first time. The account is held at Bank of Montreal. The Transit # is 2977 Account # 8996-741. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to leave a comment on this post and myself or Lori will get back to you asap.

I have a confession to make- Sheila asked me to share this news with you a few days ago. In fact today I have started and stopped writing this post many many times. As it is now after midnight I have told myself sternly that I can't go to sleep until this is done. Sheila is counting on me. The problem is .. I don't want to write it- it still hurts a lot. The first picture is of the couch Sheila was sitting on while she was unaware that her house was on fire and already burning down around her on the outside. The pictures scare me and they should. I have been guilty of leaving a candle burning while I go upstairs to do laundry or craft for a little while. I am sure we all have situations that we can look back on and even though we know the 'fire safety' rules we may have been lax in following them to the letter. Please let this be a reminder to never leave a candle burning unattended- especially with small children or pets around. As well check all of your smoke detectors and ensure all have fresh batteries and are in working condition. I know I am going to be more diligent from now on and I hope these messages inspire you to do the same.

Before I end this post I want to share the note Sheila included in her SGD email to customers who have signed up for it. In case you haven't you can read it below.

A little note from Scrappin' Sheila ...  As many of you know, my family and I recently lost our home due to a devastating fire.  It is something you think will never happen to you ... until, of course, it does.  It has been an emotional ride for us and we cannot thank you enough for your prayers, thoughts and support as we continue to figure all of this out.  Our hearts are truly filled with so much appreciation.  Our community has been with us all the way - the outpouring of support has been truly incredible.  We have recently moved from a hotel room into a lovely rental unit.  Our "new" home is close to the home we lost.  Our girls are once again surrounded by their friends and familiar surroundings.  Mike and I would like to thank our staff members who have been working extra hard to keep our business going.   To you, our customers, our friends, our family ... thank you for everything.  It is true what they say; Home truly is where the heart is ... I feel so incredibly blessed ....  Hug someone you love today ... Sheila xo

Winterland Tree Meets Impression Obsession Tree

Good Morning Everyone,
Here is my card for this up coming Wonderful Wednesdays.
My next favorite colour combo for Christmas is Teal and silver. I mixed the Winterland Tree from Memory Box with the Impression Obsession Fancy Tree die cuts. I used the sold tree die cut from IO and then used the tree from Memory box to fit behind. The silver paper is from American Craft. The stamp is from Just Rite Christmas Vintage Label Set.
Hope to see you this Wednesday.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Hanging on to summer

Happy Friday! The weather has been so nice here, love those days! I am so not ready for summer to be over so I am pretending it will go on forever, lol! Last week I taught a class about watercolouring the Art Impressions way, so much fun and today I am showing you another card with Art Impressions stamps. They are made to watercolour, just enough accents where you need them, so your watercolouring experience can be stress free! Instead of using the Marvy markers we used Tim Holtz distress markers, another way to use those great markers. What really helps is the right paper, you can find it HERE. You colour on your stamp with the markers and with a damp brush you "soften" the colour. The idea for this card is cased from the website from Art Impressions. The stampset I used can be found here.
Sentiment is from Just Rite, the palm tree from Memory Box, the birds are done by hand.
The colours I have used are: vintage photo for rocks, tumbling glass for water, stormy sky for clouds, peeled paint for grass, walnut stain and forest moss for palm trees, scattered straw for sand.
Enjoy this nice weater! Till next time, Anja

Inspiration and something a little different!

Where do you draw inspiration from??  I just returned from an incredible week up in the Muskoka region, a lovely resort called Cedar Grove Lodge on Penninsula Lake, between Huntsville and Algonquin. Cedar Grove has been the home away from home for vacationers since 1927!  It has been our home away from home for the last 8 years. The view from our cabin:

It was a week filled with nature, kids, fun and relaxation.  A week to recharge and be inspired by my surroundings.  I love the area, the sunsets, the landscapes, the mix of rocks, water and trees.  Pure heaven in my opinion.

I also had the opportunity to take in a watercolour and wool workshop, offered by a very talented artist, Pam.  Pam owns and operates the Morgan House Bed & Breakfast and Woolworks.  Pam raises her own sheep, shears them and then dies the wool.  My friend and I created a "watercolour" canvas using wool.  It was such a relaxing, remarkable morning.  Up in an old barn studio, surrounded by every shade of wool imaginable, letting the canvas take shape as it will;  here is my creation:

You can click on the picture and see that everything is died wool, we created the background first, then added layers on top.  I choose to do a landscape, my friend an abstract.  I cannot wait to try to incorporate some of the techniques I learned up in that barn studio into my scrapbooking and altered art/mixed media designs.

So, tell us where you draw YOUR inspiration from!!

Warm thoughts

Hello Stampers!

It's almost fall again.  The weather here has been beautiful, fingers crossed it continues for a while!

I've been having lots of fun with dies and with paper piecing as well this week.

This die is one of my favourite dies from My Favorite Things.  I love all the dies of things from nature - branches, trees, birds.  So much fun for cardmaking!

I used an old Stampin' Up punch to cut the corners.  The twine is from the Twinery.  and the sentiment is from Paper Smooches!  I LOVE their sentiments!

I've used some kraft cardstock for the base, and the designer paper is Bo Bunny Gabrielle, one of my all time favourites!

Happy Stamping!

another one for Halloween!

Hello Stampers!

Another card I put together, getting ready for Halloween.

I've used the brand new Spookalicious from Paper Smooches.  I love my Paper Smooches and I love paper piercing - so this was a great combo!  As always this is a great set, very versatile - with lots and lots of little elements.

I used an old 6x6 paper pad I had, Bo Bunny Garden Girl, because it was the perfect combo of green, orange, and purple.  I've embossed the little bats with some regular embossing powder.  I used a Memory Box die to cut the fence.

Happy Stamping!

More pictures of Sheila's home and donation update...

**Please scroll down for Anja's post today sharing what you can make next Toonie Tuesday at SGD**

Here are some pictures Mike and Sheila sent me of their living room and kitchen. I wanted to share them with you as I have had many of you ask me for updates. These pictures make me once again very emotional and grateful that Sheila got out okay and that no one was hurt. Sheila means so much to me- a big sister- and to many of you as well. To see the dining room table and chairs where our families spent a lot of time together building memories really hits home the value of telling those you care about what they mean to you.

The outpouring of kindness and support is incredible and it really makes you have faith in the goodness of people out there. I know that we are bombarded with sad news all the time on our tv's, newspapers and the internet and we are left wondering sometimes what our world is coming to.

Well...to me it's Love.

What those programs rarely do is highlight what happens after these devastating tragedies occur. And the LOVE and SUPPORT that Mike, Sheila, Hunter and Hannah are surrounded with is immense. It is that love and support that has really helped them  right now while they are on a very emotional roller coaster. Sheila summed it up in a text to me late last night-

"We keep telling ourselves that 99% of what we lost is just stuff. Stuff that can be replaced. But its the 1% that's left that can sneak up on you at times and devastate you knowing it is gone forever. All you can do is pick yourself back up and start to slowly work towards making a dent in that 99% to build our lives again".

Many of you have asked how to provide some financial support to help them rebuild from ground up. A trust account has been set up at the Bank of Montreal.
The Transit # is 2977 Account # 8996-741

Everything helps right now in whatever form of support they receive and they are so grateful for all of it.

We are there for you....

Toonie Tuesday September 11, please come join us!

Happy Friday! Happy to share this Christmas card with you....every year I have great intentions, really good plans....to start early on Christmas cards. How nice would it be to have them done, maybe in November and then when the time comes to send them, you get out your box and start writing them, well, this hasn't happened yet in my world, lol! But you and I can get an early start this Tuesday for TOONIE TUESDAY on September 11 at 2 PM, you can come out to the store and for a toonie you can make this card. If you would like you can buy an extra one since we usually have enough.

Hope to see you and have a great weekend, till next time, Anja

Halloween Smooches!

Hello Stampers!

It's nearly that time again - getting ready for Halloween!  Costumes are in the stores - and crafting supplies are on the shelves.  Here are my first Halloween creations of the season!

Sad news for Sheila and Family

Just want to give you a heads up that this will be a long post today.

I have some sad news for those of you who don't already know. First thing to share is that everyone is okay. But sadly Sheila, Mike, Hunter, Hannah and Lucky the cat's home caught on fire Friday night and it was quickly consumed by flames. Within minutes they had lost everything.

It started in the Pool shed right beside the house in the pool heater. Sheila had just arrived home and was watching the news when she heard what she thought sounded like hail hitting the house. When she went outside to investigate she thought it was strange that the water in the pool was still. Confused she turned to the side of the house where she had heard the noise to see flames on her roof. She went inside and grabbed the phone to call 911 but the phone died in her hands. She grabbed her purse and went outside calling for help. Her neighbours were already running to her from all directions and letting her know they called. She ran back into the house to make sure that her daughter wasn't sleeping in her room and to look for the family cat. After making sure Hunter was not there and a quick look for the cat she ran back out.  She then tried to enter the house one last time to look for their beloved cat and thankfully her neighbour Al held Sheila and refused to let her go.

Al- we all owe you huge hugs and kisses for saving her from going back in. What she didn't realize is that the entire roof was now on fire and the garage roof was already collapsing. Thankfully no one else was home at the time.

I need to say this again- Al- thank you from all of us as for saving our beloved Sheila.

Myself, Lori, Kim and Sarah were with Sheila and her family through that long night and we were amazed by the community spirit of generosity and kindness that was already kicked into high gear that night and is still ongoing. Thank you to all of you. So very very much.

Two days later the house caught on fire again by a spark that the water hadn't got and was smoldering through the weekend. Sheila and Mike got a call that their house was on fire again - an 'umber fire'. And they had to go watch their house burn again.

In the middle of this terrible tragedy there were a few miracles.

-Lucky the cat was missing for hours and Sheila knew that she was still inside the house. The cat was 14 years old and scared so she likely went to the basement and hid when all the commotion started. Sheila asked for news of Lucky all through the night and kept getting told that the chances were slim to none. She was heartbroken. Then 6 hours after the fire had started there was shouting and the news that Lucky had been found spread quickly. A firefighter who was also a cat owner refused to stop looking for her and checked the flooded basement in all the spots he thought his cat would look and low and behold he found her behind a couch. This was the news that first brought them some comfort and I still get emotional remembering watching Sheila take off running towards the house and coming back with Lucky clutched in her arms.

-Outside of asking about Lucky, Sheila also kept mourning the loss of her children's special stuffed animals they were given at birth. Hannah's was a stuffed snowman called Snowgirl and Hunter's were a bear and some monkeys. All have been found and cleaned up as good as new by caring neighbours. They were surprised to find them coated in soot but otherwise still in one piece!!!

- Sheila is always cold and when we have travelled anywhere she dragged around this beloved blanket of hers that she would snuggle in. I still remember watching her curl up in it and sleep in airports while Kim and I watched her snore lol. I would call her Linus from the Peanuts cartoon as she brought it everywhere when away from home. Kim mentioned that she wanted to find a blanket for Sheila to replace the one that would have been destroyed. I remembered that I actually had one that was similar and quickly washed and dried it up for her. When I brought it to her she started crying and holding it around her like a warm hug. Turns out it was exactly like hers. So glad we could give her back her 'security' item.

-When Mike was asked what was one thing that he was hoping would be found he said that seeing his girls all have their one beloved item back in their arms was all that he needed. Seriously- my heart melted once again. That and their family photos and videos which were also found on a backup drive that looked to be untouched on the first night.

God bless those small miracles that help people heal during these times.

Many of you  have asked how can you help. Help is needed and appreciated so thank you to those of you who can.
  • The Optimist club in their town is in the process of getting a Trust Account set up for those who wish to donate some financial assistance. When we have the information we will share it here as well as on our SGD Facebook page.
  • As well we have noted their clothing sizes on facebook as well. Some clothes have already started arriving and some back to school items to get the girls ready for their first day of school tomorrow.
  • Items for donation can be dropped off at the store and one of the SGD Divas will help you with it when you arrive.
  • Scrappingreatdeals is still open for business! You will see the Divas posting classes, Toonie Tuesdays, Product Talk Wednesdays and we will also Freaky Fridays with Karan starting in September too! Come and join us whenever you can and we will have fun and keep the store rocking!! Please be patient with us as we learn the ropes and roll up our sleeves to pitch in and keep things running smoothly while Sheila and Mike get things in place for their family for the next few months.

I could keep going on and on. In fact I have already deleted huge parts of this post to try and keep it somewhat under control.

I will leave you with this. Mike and Sheila are so grateful that no one was hurt. Things can be bought and replaced but people can't. Remember to always show those you love how you feel.

And I also have to share this. After Lucky suffered for a few days after the fire she has now started eating, drinking and peeing which are all amazing news! She is now resting and healing with her family. She never used to let Sheila pet or hold her and now they are bonded together and cuddle all the time. Here is a picture Sheila sent me tonight of Princess Lucky finally looking healthy and rested today.

Sheila, Mike and family want to thank everyone for all the love and support they are being shown.

Sheila and family- we love you.

Keepsake Purse Mini Album

Good Morning Everyone,

Remember last week I showed you a sneak peak of a class that I am working on. Well here it is.

It is a Purse Mini Album. The purse and paper are from Fabscraps. If you know me, I love doing 3D or altered projects. Not a clear picture of the inside but I used pictures from my nephew Taylor's wedding. But you can use this purse for any occasion. Nice keep sake. So remember I am running this class on Sunday, September 30: 10am - 4pm with break . You can register here.

Have a great day and thanks for looking.
