Countdown to Christmas

This weekend past, I headed out to Parkhill for my Annual Jactopia weekend with my girlfriends. I can hardly believe that we have been doing this for 11 years now! I had the opportunity to stop in at Scrappin' Great Deals and have a little shop and picked up this fun Christmas Paper by Doodlebug Design. I really wanted to do something fun with my new Buddy the Elf stamp from Impression Obsession, but what to do?

I had a peek around the dollar store in Parkhill and found this fun Easel Chalkboard.  The Paper and Accessories in the Doodlebug Sugar Plum collection were perfect for this whimsical little project!

First I mixed some paint to lay out a base on the frame. Once the paint dried, I glazed it over with some Viva Crystal Gel. One can NOT possible get enough bling can they?

For this side of the easel, I stamped in versamark and embossed in white over chalkboard paper
I used two papers to cover the easel- Christmas Trim (fussy cutting the scalloped edge) and Jolly Gingerbread. These papers are delicious enough to eat!!! I wanted to add a little more to the frame, so I couldn't resist adding Dasher Doodle to the corner after sponging him a bit to add a touch more dimension.  Lastly, I added the sweet Enamel Christmas Dots tie in all the bright colours in the Designer Paper.

and now, for the Flip Side!

Can you see the sparkly goodness of the Crystal Gel on this side?

I decided to leave this uncovered so that the sentiments and Kris Kringle would be the focal point.

My Silhouette expert friend Kim, helped me to cut the sentiment that complimented the December 25th Medallion that I fussy cut from the Christmas Magic Paper!  How many day's IS it 'til Christmas. Just a sec, I'm going to Google that!  It's 87, Eighty-seven, which means it will be here WAY before we know it!  Anyway, I would have wrote that in the parentheses, however, I could NOT find any chalk in the stores today and I couldn't wait to post. But what I love about the board, is that you can chalk it in each day! I added Kris Kringle and a few more of the enamel dots, 'cause well, you can NEVER have too much bling!

I truly hope that you enjoyed my project! It was fairly easy to complete and if you start now, you will have lot's of time to make one before the Jolly Fellow arrives!

Happy Crafting

Think Outside the Box!

Happy Monday! Recently, we had a customer in the store who asked for scrapbook papers to do with European Travel. I tried to explain to her that when scrapbooking, you are not always going to find a paper that is specific to the theme that you are going for. That is when you have to think outside the box. For instance, in her case, she could have selected papers that complemented the colours of the flags of the countries that she had visited. We have a lot of customers who ask for Graduation paper. In those cases, select papers that go with the Mortar Board (i.e. black) and perhaps add in the colour of the tassel. We had a customer who asked for paper to do with knitting. Instead of that type of paper, select something that will go with the colour of the items that you have knitted. Always remember that scrapbooking should be about the subject of your photos. Don't be restricted by being too narrow in your focus.

This weekend I was scrapbooking some photos of my niece who is visiting from San Diego. She had on a beautiful blue dress so I decided to focus on that. The Graphic 45 Gilded Lily collection was a perfect selection even though the theme of the collection really didn't coincide with my photos. I added some of the elements from the collection, some Prima flowers, some wooden butterflies, and some lettering created on my Silhouette. The soft shade of blue in the papers helped to lead your eye to the photos and the subject of those photos.

So always keep in mind what you are trying to focus on in your photos and "think outside the box"!

How to help a Crafty Rut

Hi, My name is Andrea and I'm in a crafty rut

There I've said it. Truth card on the table

My crafty room is dusty and not from an excess of glitter for a change.

Ever been there?

After snivelling and feeling sorry for myself for a wee bit
It's time to pull up the bootstraps and get back in the saddle!

but how do you do that?

Here are some tips that I use that help me and I hope inspire YOU!

1- Clean your craft area

I find cleaning my craft room not only sorts out my space but I also tend to 'rediscover' some of my supplies and what I can do with them.

2- Look online for craft inspiration

Here is my FAVOURITE!!!!!

Click on the link above to be taken to SGD's crafty inspiration boards let alone the bazillion of other crafty ideas on this site!

3- Go Shopping!!!!

This one inspires me time after time. Nothing like rows upon rows of shiny new things to create with that have the ideas ricocheting around this brain of mine. SGD is REALLY good at inspiring me.

What about you? Anything other than the 3 I have mentioned that help you out of a crafty rut? Please leave us a comment below!

Happy Crafting!
Andrea

Penny Black and Gelatos...

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing a card with you where I am using some of my favourite stuff. I have a lot of favourites....and I like it all, lol. Anyhow, I stamped the greenery with this one stamp from the  Penny Black set, floral and sketches, the butterflies are also from the same set. The sentiment is from the sprigs set.
I took a piece of watercolour paper and scribbled some orange, purple and pink gelato on it, I then sprayed it with a bit of water and some pearl glimmermist. After it was dry, I stamped and cut out the butterflies.
Love the bit of shimmer on the butterflies, hope you do to!
                                            Till next time, Anja
