Working with Plaid

Good morning, everyone. Today, I wanted to show you a layout that I did for the store using four different Plaids. Photo Play has a collection called "Mad for Plaid" and I had two of these papers with different plaids on the back of each paper. So, I first created a "frame" on the layout by using Plaid 1 and 2 on the far left side of page 1 and Plaid 3 and 4 on the far right side of Page 2.

Next, I cut the remaining papers in to 3 inch squares and included two different coloured Cardstocks which were the predominant colours in three of the plaids. I used the MFT die for Tags and Banners to add some interest and also some of the Carpe Diem "Posh" Bits and Pieces and Stickers. To finish it off, I used the Ranger Enamel Accents called: Electric Lime, Cheese Puff, and Lemon Puff.

Here are the materials that I used:

And here is the layout:

So remember not to be afraid of using different plaids on a layout. Just select a predominant and secondary colour to focus on and your layout will look great.

Snowman Postage

Good Morning Everyone,

Want to share with you my card for this coming Wonderful Wednesday. I have had this die for sometime and I thought  I need to get it out and make something with it. I am using the die from Cottage Cutz called Snowman Postage. The pink card stock is embossed with a embossing folder called Snowfall.  I cut the snowman from craft foam and Bazzill Pearl Foil (just new in store).  Behind the Snowman I used a vellum I got from Crate Paper's Cute Girl line. It gives the look of confetti behind the snowman with out doing a shaker card.

Hope to see you this Wednesday.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.

I love adding dimension and layers to my pages.
You can paint, spray and glitter them up!

Scrapbooking your Travel Photos

Good morning, everyone! Do you have a thousand photos from recent trips and are you struggling with how to get them all in to an album? Well, one way to do it is to use the multi-photo Page Protectors with different divisions marked on each page.  We have both Project Life and We R Memory Keepers in stock.

Recently, I returned from another trip to England where I stayed in the North Yorkshire area and did some more research on my family tree. The trip went wonderfully well until the day before I was to leave when I discovered that my passport was missing!!! Now that I am recovered from that shock, I wanted to properly document what I went through those last few days of my trip.

Sheila had special ordered a Collection Pack on England and in my designer box, I found the perfect paper to include in the layouts as well as some cute embellishments stickers that are usually meant for Planners. Remember to think outside the box!

To start with, I laid out all the material that I thought I might include...

The paper is from the Shimelle Collection "Go Now Go" and it was perfect for the context of my layout. Zoom in and try to see what some of the words are! Whenever I am working on a layout, I first gather all my embellishments, paper, etc. and put them together on my desk to see what I have to work with.

Here is my layout:

The sticker elements that I had were from the Carpe Diem Planner add-ons. For the rest of the album, I am going to combine full layouts with multi-photo layouts and hope that I will quickly be able to scrapbook my wonderful trip (I am trying to forget about the last few days of the trip)!

Have a great week!

Beautiful Girl Card featuring MFT

Like Anja I took a break from my Christmas card making and dug out my dusty copics to colour up this sweet girl! This is a stamp called 'Beautiful Girl' by My Favorite Things (MFT). I paper pieced her dress using a 6x6 paper pack from Doodlebug called Petite Prints. Matched perfectly with my Doodlebug card base using a 12x12 page cut to 4 ¼ by 5 ½. I finished it up with some enamel dots but I have to say I made the pink enamel dots with one of my fave products right now- Nuvo Crystal drops Glitter Sherbert Shimmer. I love making my own enamel dots in any size!

What's on your craft table right now? I highly recommend once in awhile taking a break from all the red and green a lot of us are working with and break out a non holiday card! Keeps the mojo fresh.

Cheers, Andrea

"Autumn is in the Air" Kit

Happy Monday, everyone! Today, I wanted to share with you a kit that I made for the store using the Paper House collection called "Autumn Woods". I used a Tim Holtz stencil and several distress inks to create a page of stencils. Then, I cut out each one to act as a mat for the Scarecrow. The Scarecrow was cut out using an old Quickutz die that I had. I added some mesh, a metal leaf and a Prima flower and did some fussy cutting.

This is how I created the mat background:

And here is the kit:

Still loving my Hero Arts Deer Stamp set and dies

I love this set….deerly
hee hee!
In all seriousness I can't get enough of seeing this deer stamp set come to life as you put together the layered images. I do recommend stamping in a dark ink first to 'stain' your stamps to make the images easier to see. First time it took me many times to get one I was happy with but this time with my stained stamps it was no trouble at all!
My card is made with the Hero Arts stamp set and dies and MME Comfort and Joy papers. Here's another tip. I did not take apart my dies in the kit as there were many little ones I was sure to lose. Instead when I stamped the deer I arranged the dies to cut out the deer perfectly on a larger piece of paper. This also allowed me to cut out all the small pieces without taking it apart. Now I tried lining up the stamps to stamp on the die cuts but it was hard to see on my light desktop. So I got a piece of dark paper and put the die cuts on it. This made the white die cuts easy to see on the black paper and so easy to now line up with the stamps and make them perfect!

How are your Christmas cards coming along? I've got 4 down and 30 to go LOL!

Cheers, Andrea

Scrappin' Monday

Good morning, everyone! It has been a beautiful weekend here in Southwestern Ontario. Although we have had unusually mild weather, we know that soon the cold and snow will be here! So for this month's Scrappin' Monday, I decided to do a Christmas Layout.

I used the Bo Bunny Collection "Tis the Season" and rather than using the traditional colours of Christmas, I decided to concentrate on the blue-gray colour. I added some stars using the Tim Holtz Star Die and the Shimmer Sheetz called "White Iris". Then I added some ribbon, some metal stars and did some fussy cutting.

Call the store if you are interested in a kit or drop in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28.

Have a great week!

Graceful Stage Collage

Good Morning Everyone One,

Want to share with you my projects for Technique Tuesday and Wonderful Wednesday.
For Technique Tuesday you will be learning how to use distress inks, stencils and embossing paste. I used Tim Holtz distress inks , Mixed Media Christmas dies and his Holiday Script stencil.

For Wonderful Wednesday we will be making a Christmas card using the Graceful Stag Collage die from Memory Box. I embossed the one side with Snowfall embossing folder from Taylor Expressions. The paper behind  the stag is from Kaisercraft called Glisten . The sentiment is a foil sticker from Papermania.

Hope you can come join me. Thanks for looking and have a great day.

"Fawning" over Hero Arts Deer stamp set!

Seriously…Seriously!!!!

I'm in love with the Hero Arts Deer Stamp set and dies. It is a layering set so you get a dimensional look to your image. Here's a tip when using clear layering stamps if you are having trouble seeing the image to layer them. Stamp them in a black ink first to 'stain' the stamp. Makes lining it up even easier!
I paired it up with My Mind's Eye (MME) Comfort & Joy line of paper. This paper has a gorgeous rustic Christmas look. I can't get enough of it! A few sequins and BAM! A gorgeous card. At least I think so LOL.

And sending out a big hello to all the ladies at SGD's Fall Retreat. Wish I was there!

Cheers, Andrea

Fall Sympathy card.

Happy Friday! Sympathy cards...we all need them sometimes...I like to keep them simple.
For this card, I masked a triangle and sponged on some Tim Holtz spiced marmelade, mustard seed and dusty concord. I then stamped this leaf from Altenew in purple, added a MFT sentiment, some gold Viva dots, matted on gold mirri board on a purple card base.
You could make this in different colour combo's.
                                         Till next time, Anja

Big Welcome to Diva Connie!!

We are so excited to welcome a new diva to our team!
Welcome Diva Connie!!

 Here is a brief background:
"My name is Connie Van Loosen. Sheila has offered me this amazing opportunity to join the SGD design team. I thought I was retired from the professional side of this ever changing hobby of rubber stamping. Hmmmm no not quite. For the past twenty years I have owned and operated Under Construction creative rubber stamp store and stamp line. I have been designing stamps and workshops all these years. Being a store owner has allowed me to take classes and learn from some of the industries leading instructors. Helene' Metieve (Magenta), Jennifer Maquire(Hero Arts),Tim Holtz,Suzie Wineburg, and Dyan Reaveley (Ranger Industries) to name a few. My influences have been from many and as a result my own style is very eclectic running from a vintage distressed look to over the top cute.  In my spare time I like to bake, watch baseball, camp with my hubby and hand out with my kids and grandkids. I am involved with two ATC groups and stamping is still my number one thing to do everyday. I am looking forward to this new adventure and sharing all the fun with you."

With Connie's first class, she will be teaching how to colour with Distress Inks! You will be creating all three of these breathtaking cards featuring products by Tim Holtz, Memory Box, Hero Arts & more! Envelopes for each card will also be included.

We hope you can join Connie at this wonderful workshop!!
